FEATURES:
The AT400 DVT features an environmentally sealed, over-balanced diaphragm first stage with Oceanic’s DVT feature, a retracting plug that keeps water out of the first-stage inlet even if the first stage is dunked without the dust cap in place. The new Ion’s pneumatically balanced second stage is among the smallest of this test group, but it sports a large inhalation control knob to regulate breathing resistance at depth and a dive/pre-dive switch to stop surface free-flows.

PERFORMANCE:
The Ion feels light in the mouth due to its small size and ABS/polycarbonate composite construction, plus it’s a great breather, as evidenced by perfect scores on the ANSTI breathing machine. A large, flexible front purge cover is easy to find and clears the reg easily, while the swept-back exhaust tee provides better-than-average bubble displacement. The breathing resistance knob travels 2.5 full rotations, offering a substantial range of adjustment, and it clicks to let you know when the reg’s fully detuned. The dive/pre-dive switch, located directly above the breathing resistance knob, is a little small but not hard to find.

BOTTOM LINE:

Smallest Second Stage Ever
The ION is AERIS' smallest and most streamlined second stage ever with an outer ring diameter of only 2.3” and 5.4 ounce weight. The ION's second stage is made from an ABS/Polycarbonate composite blend of materials making the ION both extremely rugged and lightweight, reducing jaw fatigue on extended dives. The extremely lightweight cover ring is machined from a solid piece of aircraft aluminum, and then hard anodized to prevent corrosion.

Patented Dynamic Adjustment
A common objection to typical adjustable second stages is that divers can't imagine themselves twisting and turning a knob as they descend and ascend through the depths. If inhalation resistance is set near zero at depth, your ascent would require you to manually increase resistance as ambient water pressure is reduced to prevent free-flow. The ION features a pneumatically balanced valve that maintains a preferred breathing resistance throughout the dive. Set it once and the ION automatically adjusts to make breathing as easy at 100 feet as it is at 30 feet.

Brushed Aluminum Styling
The ION's high-tech accent rings are machined from a solid piece of aircraft Aluminum, then hard-anodized utilizing a unique process to prevent corrosion.

Computer Optimized Design
AERIS regulators are exclusively designed using the latest 3-D computer modeling techniques. This allows us the ability to model and test performance while still in the early stages of development. The ION's unique deflector vane and housing design diverts airflow from the valve directly to the mouthpiece, producing smooth venturi-assisted inhalation.

Oversized Integrated Purge Button
Adding to the ION's rugged durability, an oversized integrated purge button is utilized to eliminate the possibility of free-flow caused by trapped sand.

Patented Orthodontic Mouthpiece
To further reduce jaw fatigue, the ION features an all new patented orthodontic mouthpiece with high density bite tabs designed to accommodate the natural overbite of the human jaw.

Nitrox Compatibility
The ION is classified as being suitable for use with nitrox breathing gas mixtures containing up to 40% oxygen by volume without the need for special preparation, cleaning or component parts.
