The M14 wide-field mask features an advanced design that provides a broader field of vision to ensure a greater visual experience in every dive. This mask achieves an ultra-wide field of vision by reducing the distance between the eyes and lens. Compared to traditional single-lens masks, the M-14's underwater field of vision is increased by approximately 2.5 times. (The refraction ratio for light in water is calculated at 1.33.)
The first important difference in the M-14 is that the lens and frame have been made bigger. Generally, since there is no frame between the eyes in a single-lens mask, the field of vision can be wider than the typical two-lens mask. However, for the M-14, to further increase the field of vision, the lens and frame have been dramatically enlarged compared to previous products.
The second important difference is that the distance between the lens and the eyes has been reduced. To increase the field of vision in a mask, the lens must be brought closer to the eyes. To achieve this, the M-14's frame was made as thin as possible, and the fitting line was moved slightly to the outside. With previous designs, fitting was above the eyebrows, and because of the protrusion of the frame, the distance between the lens and the eye could not be reduced. However, by moving the fitting line up to the midle of the forehead, the distance between the lens and the eyes is further reduced and a wider field of vision (both above and below as well as left and right) is achieved.
The lens and frame have been made bigger, but since the distance between the lens and the eyes has been reduced, the inner volume has actually been reduced in comparison with other traditional single-lens masks.
Thus, clearing the mask, as before, is easy to do. Since the fitting line is large in proportion to the large size of the mask and because of the thinness of the frame, the mask is also more resistant to moving even in a current.
Until now, in order to adjust the vertical fitting of the mask, it was necessary to change the tension by sliding the strap vertically at the back of the head. The M-14 features a five-position strap angle adjuster to make fine adjustments for vertical fitting of the mask possible. By making changes and setting the left and right strap angles, fine adjustments to the vertical fitting, which were not possible on masks until now, can be made quickly and easily.
